Ed Staunton

VOCAL COACH | VOCAL CONSULTANT

BMus, BSc

Biography

For more than twenty years, Ed has worked with voices at every stage of the industry – from Grammy winners and platinum-selling artists to West End leads and Mercury Prize nominees.

His work centres on helping singers develop reliable control while preserving the character of their natural sound.

An Artist’s Perspective

Ed’s approach is rooted in thirty years of experience as a singer, writer, and performer. He understands the practical, often demanding realities placed on a voice in the studio and on tour.

This allows him to translate complex vocal mechanics into clear, instinctive adjustments that can be applied immediately in performance.

Training & Expertise

Ed’s work is built on a strong academic and technical foundation. With degrees in Music (Vocals, Production & Arranging) and Psychology & Physiology, he combines a musician’s ear with a detailed understanding of vocal function.

Originally trained in Speech Level Singing – the method used by icons such as Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder – Ed’s work has since evolved to incorporate current research in vocal science. This includes the work of leading voice scientists such as Ingo Titze and the National Center for Voice and Speech, alongside broader developments in acoustics and vocal mechanics.

This depth of understanding allows him to identify and resolve complex vocal issues with clarity and efficiency.

Professional Work & Affiliations

Following years of teaching at degree level for London’s leading music institutions, Ed now works exclusively in private practice.

He is a member of the British Voice Association and Vocology in Practice, an international network of voice professionals dedicated to high standards in vocal training and rehabilitation.
