When performance is everything

VOCAL TECHNIQUE YOU CAN TRUST

The strongest performances come when expression is instinctive.

Not when you're focused on technique.

Ed Staunton

VOCAL COACH | VOCAL CONSULTANT

BMus, BSc

Ed Staunton works with singers across contemporary music – helping them build vocal technique that lets performance and expression take centre stage.

For more than twenty years, he has worked with voices at every stage of the industry – from Grammy winners and platinum-selling artists to West End leads and Mercury Prize nominees.

Where much of vocal coaching focuses on surface symptoms, Ed draws on modern vocal science to resolve underlying causes – giving singers adjustments they can take straight into performance.

Beyond Surface Symptoms

Most vocal problems can feel deeply ingrained, but are often rooted in a small number of underlying coordination imbalances and established habits.

However, singing is not simply about ‘breathing from the diaphragm’, but rather a complex relationship between breath, vocal cords, and vowel shape acoustics.

Ed’s teaching combines more than 30 years of singing and over 20 years of teaching experience, alongside ongoing study in vocal science and evidence-based training.

Rather than simply explaining singing, the focus is on using targeted vocal exercises to build more efficient coordination and make unhelpful habits harder to fall back into.

This allows singers to refocus on performance and expression, while preserving their artistic identity.

“The aim is not technical perfection, but a voice where performance and expression become instinctive.”

Integrated Approach

A reliable voice depends on more than isolated technical fixes. Vocal technique exists within a wider framework, including:

  • vocal and physical health

  • mind-body connection

  • artistry

  • performance demands

The goal is not simply short-term improvement, but building a voice that remains stable, expressive, and sustainable under pressure.

Where appropriate, Ed also works alongside ENT consultants, speech and language therapists, and other voice specialists.
